I jumped off a cliff.

Dear Readers,

I jumped off a cliff for the first time. Don't worry, I'm still alive. My ear just hurts.

Yours truly,

Michelle

Alright, maybe I am a tad bit exaggerating, but hey, it was a big moment for me.

Last Saturday after Kristen and Noah's wedding, a group of us went whitewater rafting in the River Columbia Gorge, nesteled right in between Oregon and Washington. Never before that day had I rafted. Sure I had a little interest in doing it someday, but to be honest, I am a very poor swimmer. Like if you tossed me into an eight foot deep pool, I'd probably drown. Nonetheless everyone was super encouraging and I tightened my life jacket so tight I could hardly breathe. As long as I stayed in the raft, I would be fine. Right?

Josh, Me, and Michael in our wet suits.
After a few minutes in the river getting splashed with icy cold water, I thought, this isn't so bad. Then they made us get out of the raft and onto this high bank. They said we were taking a 'nature walk,' but let me tell you, if you fell off the side of the cliff during the nature walk, it wouldn't be pretty. It was completely understandable of course, seeing as the fall was a high category 5 and dangerous for us to ride. So one of the guides tied the rafts together and went down it himself.

Now we had to get back to the raft but we were on a sixteen foot cliff and he was below in the water. The guide with us on our nature walk told us we could either jump off the cliff and swim to the raft, or take the long windy 'nature walk' down (which was basically holding onto a rope and lowering yourself. It was equally scary). Being the water wuss that I was, I wanted to take the walk down, but everyone else was jumping off the cliff and being so supportive that I caved in to peer pressure. But I am glad I did because I am so PROUD of myself. I took the huge leap and jumped into the water. It wasn't very graceful and was super loud sounding because it hurt, but I did it.

The only bad thing? After the raft trip my ears were painfully water logged. Because I'm not a swimmer, I didn't understand the pain. It just felt so painful I wanted to cry. I spent the whole night blow drying my ears, hoping on one foot trying to get the water out, and laying on my sides hoping gravity would take it out. My hearing was a bit dulled the next few days, but I think it has finally passed.

Also, I didn't take any photos, but the next day we ate at Pok Pok in Portland at Josh's suggestion. It was the most amazing and authentic thai food I've eaver eaten. So do yourself a favor and go eat there the next time you're in Portland.

Kristen & Noah

The long awaited wedding weekend had arrived! Last Thursday Michael, his friend Josh, and I made the drive to Hood River, Oregon. We came just in the knick of time to the rehearsal and was treated to a sneak peek of the venue.

Noah and Kristen's wedding was the epitome of a perfect day. The love and happiness apparent on everyone's faces, the amazing weather, and the beautiful landscape was just the icing on the cake. I could go on about the wedding, but I think the few snapshots below speaks volumes.

There's always something magical about weddings. It brings people together to celebrate love, family, friends, and the promise of a lifelong commitment. It was such an honor to be a guest and I wish the happy couple infinite love & happiness.

Two-year Meet-aversary!

What a weekend! Michael and I got back yesterday night from a great weekend in Hood River, Oregon for a friend's wedding. You bet I'll post more about that later. This post however is a recap of Michael and I's meet-aversary!

As most of you know, Michael and I met in Paris on September 3, 2012. So every time September 3rd comes around we like to celebrate our chance meeting by going to a French restaurant. Last year we went to Le Pichet, but this year we went to Cafe Campagne right near Pike Place Market.

If you haven't been, I recommend it. It was my first time there and I was impressed. It made me so nostalgic of Paris.

We started with a bottle of wine, escargot, and a salad (not pictured).

For the main I had mussels and fries. Fries were amazing because they were double fried just like I had them in Paris! They were also great to dip into the broth.

Michael had the duck confit which turned out excellent as well.

To end the meal we had creme brulee.

Another great date night to be remembered for sure :)

#PitchWars Mentees Announced

That was me about ten minutes prior to the #PitchWars reveal. Below is me ten minutes after.

And this is my thought process today:

Or at least, that's what I'm telling myself.

I won't lie, I was a bit bummed, but I am happy for those who made it on the list. CONGRATS to the mentees and alternates! All in all, PitchWars was a great experience and I'm so glad and proud of myself for entering. It was my first contest ever and I wouldn't have changed a thing. I still love my little story to pieces and am still hoping to find that someone who loves it just as much as I do.

On the bright side today is #MSWL which will keep me entertained on twitter and today is also Michael and I's Paris Anniversary. We'll be celebrating the day we met two years ago tonight and I couldn't be more eager for the work day to be done. My tummy is ready for some nice french food and wine.

Last Mariner's Game & Fall Anticipation

Yesterday for work, my company went to the Mariner's game. Upon leaving I realized that this would probably be the last game this summer for me. As the weekend approaches, so does a cold front along with some showers. Slowly the rain is making a comeback to Seattle. I hate to say it, but I think yesterday was the last eighty degree day of the year. On the plus side, my cat will love the colder weather.

How do I feel about the colder weather? Let's just say I'm going to miss the heat. To make up for it, I will attempt to be more festive during fall now that Michael and I have more room. Already the tips of the trees are already starting to show signs of autmun and their are pumpkin flavored beverages  on sale at the stores. Before we know it, fall will be here. However, I am excited to get a Christmas tree this year. A real live one, since I've always grown up with the faux tree. At least that is something to look forward to!

Book Review: Dangerous Girls by Abigail (Haas) McDonald

I rated it 4 out of 5 stars.

Overview: It's Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off to a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives. But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations.

As Anna sets out to find her friend's killer; she discovers hard truths about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.

As she awaits the judge's decree, it becomes clear that everyone around her thinks she is not just guilty, but dangerous. When the truth comes out, it is more shocking than one could ever imagine...

Review: Normally I'm not into the thriller YA, because honestly, I'm a big fat baby, and just about anything scares me. However, I'm not completely opposed to the genre since I love watching crime shows like 'Law and Order: SVU,' and 'Luther.' I picked up Dangerous Girls after someone mentioned Dangerous Boys on twitter. I looked it up and thought, hmm this is interesting, but since Dangerous Girls was published first, I thought to give that a read first.

The crime that occurs in this book reminded me a lot of the Amanda Knox case where she found her roommate murdered when she was abroad in Italy. I didn't mind it much since I was curious to see how Haas would handle the ending. I thought the way the novel was written was very superb, flashing from past to present, so that we only get bits and pieces, yet they all fit collectively together. The pacing was very well done. It kept me guessing the whole time as I tried to figure out motives and the murderer.

Let me just say, it did not end the way I thought! Which is reason enough for you to give this a read! It'll keep you guessing and the minds of dangerous girls will shock you.

Random Highlights

It's another Monday. *sad face* Does anyone even look forward to Mondays? I know I don't! The weekends just go by too fast.

On Friday, Michael and I had Cristine and Tim over and they brought this incredible spread over for apz (note Blaire's curious face)!

Saturday was a pretty relaxed day. We went to brunch and in the evening went to Nishino's for dinner and watched 'The Hundred-Foot Journey'.

If you like movies feel-good movies about food. I recommend this one! Michael and I loved it. It was funny, light-hearted, had its serious moments, but all around was inspirational.

Sunday morning I finished my current read, Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas, a YA psychological thriller. Let me just first say, I'm not much of a thriller person, but I did enjoy this one and I already have Dangerous Boys loaded onto my kindle. I'll post a review sometime this week :)

In the afternoon, Michael, Tim, Cristine, and I went to to the soapbox derby hosted by Redbull and then had lunch in Pike Place. Sorry for my lack of photos. I just wasn't on top of it this weekend.

Too lazy to cook dinner, we ended up going to Bottlehouse for dinner and dessert!

And that was my weekend in a nutshell. A few things to look forward to, however, is Labor Day weekend! I'm back on my normal work schedule instead of doing four ten-hour shifts. Michael and I's 'meet-aversery' is next week, and then we'll be off to Oregon for a wedding. Then, by the time we know it, Fall will have come, which will make me super nostalgic about school. Anyone else miss romantic literature lectures? Or is it just me?

Happy Monday, all :)
